The ancient art of meditation is powerful for becoming in tune with your authentic self and growing spiritually. Though more common in the East, meditation is becoming more popular around the world as spiritual and health experts report the many benefits that come as a result of regular meditation.
Meditation is simply the act of sitting quietly while turning your focus inward. Attention to the breath is a must. As you focus on the inhale and exhale, the many thoughts that are normally plaguing your mind will decrease. The more regularly you practice meditation, the more you will be able to control your mind and be at peace mentally, emotionally, and physically.
Much research has been done on the effects of meditation. Physically, it has been linked to a decrease in blood pressure, stress, anxiety related disorders, and pain. Emotionally it has been linked to helping individuals come to terms with wounds from the past and receive emotional healing. Spiritually, it has been linked to becoming more aware and conscious of one’s spiritual makeup and the cosmic energies of the universe.
The fastest way to experience growth in every area of your life is to practice daily meditation. I understand that many people think that sitting quietly while doing nothing is a waste of time, but I assure you that if you will commit to taking even just a small amount of time each day to meditate, you will begin to notice growth taking place in your mind, body, and spirit.
There’s nothing more powerful than the testimonies of those who have harnessed the power of meditation for their own growth. Most of the ancient spiritual gurus tapped into such power and experienced an abundance of spiritual truth that they happily shared their revelations with the public. People such as Buddha and Jesus meditated so much that they became fully one with the Divine. They were absolutely transformed and a multitude of others have been as well.
If you do not meditate now, please consider taking about 15 minutes per day to do so. Everyone has 15 minutes a day that they can set aside for meditation. Find a quiet spot and sit down in a chair or on the floor. Close your eyes and take three deep breaths. As you exhale focus on relaxing every part of your body.
Once you are completely relaxed, pay attention solely to your breathing. When you inhale, think the word “Spirit” and as you exhale think the word “Love”. Random thoughts will intrude and as they do or if you find yourself wandering off thinking about what you will cook for dinner or what you want to do Saturday, gently bring your attention back to your breathing. The more you engage in meditation, fewer thoughts will interrupt and you will be able to experience “no thoughts”, which is your goal.
The state of simply being one with the Universe without random thoughts running through your mind is a divine state. It is from that state that personal and spiritual growth occurs. I can think of an analogy that shows the powerful effects of meditation.
Envision a glass full of muddy water. This represents the human mind. If the water is stirred, it is moving and the water remains muddy. Although if the glass remains still for awhile, the dirt settles at the bottom of the glass and the water becomes clear. If your mind is busy moving about with thousands of thoughts, it gets clouded, but if you can still your mind in silence, thoughts (like the dirt in the water) will settle or cease to be and you will experience clarity and peace.
This is the power of meditation. It can transform your life. I hope that you will begin this brilliant technique and if you happen to meditate now, continue to do so, for you are growing leaps and bounds as you do.
